How to do Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for your website
To rank higher on searches, you must implement the principles of Search Engine Optimizations (SEO). Do not miss out on clicks, sales and brand impr...
Meta tags are a basic yet extremely useful technique for Search Engine Optimization (What is SEO) and have been popular ever since the early days of SEO. Today, they are used by most websites.
The purpose of a meta tag is to include descriptive information in your pages and products, so they get ranked higher, and are easier to find on the search engines.
These tags are invisible to a normal visitor, but very useful for browsers and platforms like Facebook.
When you create a store with Jumpseller, the SEO is automatically set up. However, you can still customize the meta tags by following a couple easy steps! Let’s talk about how to add a meta-tag to your products, pages, and categories!
First, let’s do a quick refresher on the 3 components of metadata that you can customise in your Jumpseller store:
This is what will be shown as the title of a page when it appears in the results of the search engine.
It should be short (less than 60 characters), unique, and have a relevant keyword at the start.
Here’s an example of a good page title: “Gaming laptops at Wholesale Prices | Orange Wifi” |
This is good in terms of SEO because it is using keywords present on the page and it’s also making reference to the online store name (Orange Wifi).
The main goal of it is to describe the content of a page, on the SERP (Search Engine Results Page).
It should be only a few paragraphs long (less than 160 characters) and unique.
Try to write it in a natural and compelling way, while including some of the keywords you want to rank for.
Here’s an example of a good meta description: “Find high performance gaming laptops at a price not seen anywhere else on the market. Wholesale markup with certified quality.”
Note: In certain situations, the search engine may not use your meta description, and instead, choose to use a certain paragraph of that page (specially when it considers the meta description isn’t answering the searcher’s query).
The url is what allows users to reach a website/page with ease.
One of the things that has to be taken into account is the user experience, odd urls won’t contribute to it:
If you have a product page whose title is “Gaming laptops at Wholesale Prices | Orange Wifi”, the automatically generated url will be: “https://orange-wifi.jumpseller.com/gaming-laptops-at-wholesale-prices-orange-wifi”. |
This url is quite long, so you can edit it to show up like this: https://orange-wifi.jumpseller.com/gaming-laptops
In the end, here’s how your page would appear after all this changes:
